Interviews with President F.W. de Klerk, Sir Robert Fulton and Sir John Shepherd. After succeeding against all the odds in dismantling South Africa’s apartheid system and establishing a stable democracy, the country’s former President and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, FW de Klerk, wanted to use his experience to help other countries, particularly in the developing world, to improve their governance, bolster their democratic institutions and achieve peaceful resolutions of internal and external conflicts. To do so, he founded the Global Leadership Foundation, which uses the expertise of former political leaders like himself to work with current regimes to seek solutions to crises and conflicts, and promote good governance, tailoring their approach to local realities and choosing not to publicise their own activities.
