High-Value Healthcare For All: Innovative Approaches in the United States and the Netherlands

In the difficult world of healthcare, this chapter uses eight case studies to looks at 21 innovations, with two key concepts emerging: service line innovation and network facilitators.

Although the healthcare industry is notorious for market inefficiencies and systemic waste, our analysis of 21 organisations across the US and the Netherlands shows that innovation and high-value healthcare for all are not only feasible but achievable goals. What is needed is a way to rapidly disseminate the lessons learned from these innovations, realign the healthcare payment system, and provide adequate legislative actions to ensure such innovations can spread through the system.
